‘FAAMAI Digital Arts Hub’  ศูนย์กลางงานด้านศิลปกรรมดิจิทัลแห่งแรกของไทยและเอเชีย

เพราะโลกในยุคปัจจุบันมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างรวดเร็ว เทคโนโลยีหรือสื่อดิจิทัลก็ได้ก้าวเข้ามามีอิทธิพลต่อการใช้ชีวิตและการทำงานมากขึ้น ในขณะที่บุคคลากรและแหล่งเรียนรู้ด้านศิลปะดิจิทัลในประเทศไทยยังมีจำนวนน้อย "FAAMAI Digital Arts Hub" จึงถือกำเนิดขึ้น เพื่อเติมเต็มบุคลากรด้านดิจิทัลอาร์ต และตั้งเป้าเป็นผู้นำด้านฮับดิจิทัลอาร์ตของภูมิภาคเอเชียแปซิฟิกใน 5 ปี พร้อมทั้งช่วยส่งเสริมเศรษฐกิจไทยให้เร่งฟื้นตัวในเร็ววัน

“ศูนย์ปฏิบัติการศิลปกรรมดิจิทัล” หรือ “FAAMAI Digital Arts Hub” ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 2020 ภายใต้การลงนามในความตกลง 3 ฝ่าย (MOU) ร่วมกับสำนักทรัพย์สินแห่งจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย (PMCU) และบริษัท ปิโก (ไทยแลนด์) จำกัด (มหาชน) โดยมีจุดมุ่งหมายให้เป็นศูนย์ปฏิบัติการที่รวบรวมองค์ความรู้ด้านศิลปะ และเทคโนโลยีด้านดิจิทัลเพื่อให้สอดรับกับเทรนด์ดิจิทัลที่กำลังได้รับความนิยมไปทั่วโลก และมุ่งหวังในการบูรณาการศิลปกรรมแขนงต่าง ๆ เพื่อสมทบองค์ความรู้ทางสาขาดิจิทัลอาร์ตเป็นแห่งแรกของประเทศไทยและทวีปเอเชีย อีกทั้งยังต้องการให้ศูนย์ปฏิบัติการนี้เป็นพื้นที่สำหรับนักเรียน นักศึกษา อาจารย์ นักวิจัย ศิลปินไทยและต่างประเทศรวมถึงบุคคลทั่วไปได้มาบุกเบิก ทดลองและจัดแสดงศิลปะดิจิทัลอาร์ต หรือศิลปะแขนงใหม่ที่มีดิจิทัลอาร์ตเป็นพื้นฐาน ซึ่งอาจเกิดจากการผสมผสานหลายทักษะหรือข้ามศาสตร์ อันทำให้เกิดเทคโนโลยีหรือนวัตกรรมใหม่ ๆ ตามมาอีกมากมาย

นอกจากนี้ FAAMAI Digital Arts Hub ยังเป็นพันธมิตรกับสถาบันการศึกษาต่างประเทศอีกมากมาย เช่น Bauhaus-Universitat Weimar มหาวิทยาลัยด้านศิลปะในเยอรมนี Taipei National University of the Arts มหาวิทยาลัยด้านศิลปะในไต้หวัน เป็นต้น ซึ่งทาง FAAMAI ก็มีความตั้งใจที่จะพัฒนาองค์ความรู้ด้านดิจิทัลอาร์ต สร้างพันธมิตรใหม่ ๆ รวมถึงสนับสนุนการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานเพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการของสังคม

ปัจจุบัน FAAMAI มี 2 พื้นที่หลักด้วยกัน คือ

1) FAAMAI Dome หนึ่งในโดมดิจิทัลอาร์ตที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในภูมิภาคอาเซียน มีเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลาง 35 เมตร ความสูง 17.5 เมตร (ประมาณตึก 6 ชั้น) ออกแบบโครงสร้างโดยสถาปนิกและผู้ผลิตโดมระดับโลกจากประเทศเยอรมนี ภายในของโดมสามารถรองรับผู้เข้าชมได้ถึง 1,000 คน มีพื้นที่ภายนอกกว่า 4,000 ตรม. สามารถรองรับกิจกรรมที่หลากหลาย อาทิ การทำ 360 degrees Projection Mapping การจัดแสดง นิทรรศการหรืออีเวนท์ ซึ่งตั้งอยู่ ณ ลานข้างอุทยาน 100 ปี จุฬาฯ

2) FAAMAI STUDIO พื้นที่สำหรับการทดลองด้านศิลปะและการออกแบบงานดิจิทัลอาร์ต ภายในมีอุปกรณ์ล้ำสมัยครบครัน อาทิ เซนเซอร์ โปรเจคเตอร์ความละเอียดสูง เครื่องมือตัดต่อเสียง ซอฟท์แวร์ มิวสิกไลบรารี และอื่น ๆ อีกมากมาก

สำหรับแนวทางการทำงานของ FAAMAI Digital Arts Hub จะเน้นถ่ายทอดความรู้แบบบูรณาการ มีการนำเทคโนโลยีใหม่ ๆ มาผสมผสานกับผลงานศิลปะ จนกลายเป็นผลงานดิจิทัลอาร์ตที่น่าสนใจมากยิ่งขึ้น ตลอดจนมุ่งพัฒนาองค์ความรู้ด้านดิจิทัลอาร์ตผ่านกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ เช่น โครงการประกวดและเวิร์กชอปต่าง ๆ เป็นต้น เพื่อใช้เป็นศูนย์รวมองค์ความรู้และงานด้านดิจิทัลอาร์ต และเพื่อเป็นการพัฒนาศักยภาพของบุคลากรในด้านดิจิทัลอาร์ตให้ทัดเทียมกับระดับนานาชาติ และยังมุ่งหวังให้เกิดพลังขับเคลื่อนด้านเศรษฐกิจของประเทศในระยะยาว รวมทั้งกระตุ้นให้เกิดกิจกรรมในชุมชน สร้างความตื่นตัวและการมีส่วนร่วม และความภาคภูมิใจให้คนในชุมชน ตลอดจนเป็นการสร้างรายได้ให้กับร้านค้าและร้านอาหารในชุมชนในพื้นที่ใกล้เคียงด้วย

‘FAAMAI Digital Arts Hub’ Thailand and Asia’s first digital art hub

The world is changing rapidly. Technology and digital media have become more influential in life and at work, while the number of digital art sources and personnel in Thailand is still limited. "FAAMAI Digital Arts Hub" came into being to complement digital art personnel with the aim to become Asia Pacific’s leading digital art hub within five years and speed up the recovery of Thai economy.

“FAAMAI Digital Arts Hub” was founded in 2020 under the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the hub and two other parties, Property Management of Chulalongkorn University (PMCU) and Pico (Thailand) Public Company Limited. Its purpose is to become an operating center that collects the bodies of knowledge about art and digital technology as the worldwide digital trend arises. The hub also aims to be the first in Thailand and Asia to integrate different branches of art into digital art’s body of knowledge. Moreover, the operating center is meant to be a space for Thai and foreign students, teachers, researchers, artists, and the public to develop, experiment, and exhibit their digital art or novel digital art-based art pieces born out of the mixture of different skills or sciences, which might lead to many more new technologies and innovations.

What’s more, FAAMAI Digital Arts Hub is an ally of a number of foreign educational institutes, such as Bauhaus-Universitat Weimar in Germany and Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan. FAAMAI intends to develop digital art knowledge, make new allies, and support the making of art pieces in response to the society’s needs.

Currently, there are two main areas of FAAMAI:

1. FAAMAI Dome - One of the largest digital art domes in ASEAN with a diameter of 35 meters and height of 17.5 meters (roughly the size of a six-story building). Its structural design was conducted by world-class architect and dome maker from Germany. The interior of the dome accommodates up to 1,000 visitors. The outdoor area, which is located at  Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park, with the space of over 4,000 square meters can support various kinds of activities, such as 360 degrees Projection Mapping, exhibitions, and events.
2. FAAMAI STUDIO – Being a space for digital art experiments and designs, it contains a complete set of cutting-edge equipment, such as high-resolution projector and sensor, audio editing software, music library, etc. 

FAAMAI Digital Arts Hub will focus on integrative knowledge impartation. New technologies will be combined with art pieces to create more interesting digital art works. Additionally, the hub aims to develop digital art knowledge via different activities, such as contests and workshops, in order to become the hub of digital art works and knowledge and bring digital art personnel’s skills to an international level. Furthermore, FAAMAI hopes to initiate long-term propulsion for the country’s economy, as well as create activities that both stimulate alertness, participation, and pride for people in the community and generate income for nearby shops and restaurants.
