Expressive arts therapy is a dynamic field in the mental health profession. It is based on the empirical knowledge that the process of artistic creation, under the guidance of a qualified therapist, enables individuals to become more expressive and communicative, develop self-awareness and therefore begin to heal.

The Master of Arts in Expressive Arts Therapy at Chulalongkorn University integrates various media of expression to offer therapists a variety of modalities they can apply in their practice that suit the needs of different clients. 

In this two-year programme, the students will acquire knowledge on methods and techniques of major therapy and art therapy, research and assessment, and standards and ethics in clinical practice, as well as carry out field training under supervision.

Course Structure

The M.A. in Expressive Arts Therapy is a two-year (four semesters) full-time programme for graduates who intend to pursue the discipline of arts therapy. The programme encompasses a wide spectrum of courses, including core, specialised, advanced courses, a clinical practicum and receive individual and group supervision.
Programme offers two options in the study programme: “Plan A:Thesis Programme” and “Plan B: Non-Thesis Programme”

The Master of Arts in Expressive Arts Therapy programme has only ONE admission per academic year, which is in August. Applicants can start applying for the programme beginning in February*.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in all fields of study with minimum of 2.50 GPA
  • If students have not graduated in art fields or psychology, they must have at least 1 year of any field of practical experience.
  • English proficiency (attained within the previous 2 years):
    CU-TEP score of at least 60 or TOEFL score of at least 500 or IELTS (Academic) score of at least 5.0
