Master of Arts in Music Therapy
Why study music therapy at Chulalongkorn University?
The use of music in health issues has long been a part of indigenous practices in Thailand and today has become an evidence-based field of therapy to help people improve their physical, mental and emotional well-being. Internationally, research has shown the therapeutic benefits of music therapy on a wide range of health conditions and disabilities, such as developmental disorder (e.g. Autism, ADHD), Developmental Coordination Disorder, neurological disorders (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, brain injury) and mental health conditions (e.g. depression and anxiety).
The Master of Art in Music Therapy at Chulalongkorn University is an innovative hybrid programme that combines online learning with on-campus classes. To ensure an optimal clinical practice, the programme integrates the well-respected American and European music therapy approaches, which enable students to be develop the abilities to work with a variety of clinical populations. As the only international programme in music therapy is offered by an Asian university, the aim of the program is to establish music therapy as a profession that will develop and flourish in the region.
Combining art and science, this interdisciplinary programme facilitates collaboration between Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Psychology and the Graduate School, Moreover, the program also includes collaboration between the university and world-leading institution in music therapy—Temple University (USA), the University of Jyvaskyla (Finland), and LUCA School of Arts (Belgium).
